These ranges give students a general idea of ACT score expectations at American postsecondary institutions. According to this report, average ACT scores at "highly selective" schools (in which the majority of first-year students finished in the top 10% of their high school class) is 27-30. "Selective" universities (which admit mostly students in the top 25% of their high school class) expect scores of 25-27, while "traditional" colleges (top 50%) look for scores of 22-24.
